Kapata Arkeologi is an open access, peer-reviewed journal published and imprinted by Balai Arkeologi Maluku under direction Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional, Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kemdikbud. The first edition was published in August 2005 and managed to be issued twice in every volume. Kapata Arkeologi comes from the term of 'Kapata' which is the Maluku language which means the tradition of telling historical events of the past in the form of poetry. In accordance with its meaning, the publication of Kapata Arkeologi is expected to become an instrument on disseminating various information related about the culture of the past, based on the results of archaeological research and cultural studies. Kapata Arkeologi publishes original research papers, review articles and case studies focused on archaeology, history, ethnography, and other disciplines related to humans and culture. All papers are peer-reviewed by at least two referees. Every article submitted to Kapata Arkeologi will not have any 'Article Processing Charges.' This includes submitting, peer-reviewing, editing, publishing, maintaining and archiving, and allows immediate access to the full-text versions of the articles. Kapata Arkeologi gives an appreciated honorarium to the authors.
